Elaine Wein will lead us through the history and redevelopment of this
busy and diverse area of London

King’s Cross is one of the largest and most exciting redevelopments in London. The 67-acre site has a rich history and a unique setting with 20 historic and 30 new buildings set in new streets, squares and parks. Home to cutting edge medical research and world leading organisations, and London’s newest concert halls and museums.

Starting at the British Library, we visit the areas historic sights and hear about its rich industrial heritage.  We see one of London’s oldest churches, learn what inspired Thomas Hardy, and why the Beatles were there, walk through a nature reserve and across London’s newest pedestrian bridge.

Strolling briefly along part of Regents Canal, we will show you where you can have fun controlling over 1000 fountain jets, and the most unusual book shop in London.  Finally we will end our walk in the stunning St. Pancras Station once under threat, but saved for us by one of our most favourite Poet Laureates.

Meeting point:  The Isaac Newton Statue in the British Library forecourt
Finishing Point: St. Pancras Station
