Starting at 11am on Saturday 7th July
Elaine Wein will lead us through the histories and mysteries of this stretch of the Thames

IBM Club Member's* Price £5 per person
Non-Member Price £10 per person

Starting at Hammersmith, we will stroll along the Thames to Chiswick and hear about a very unusual request from a nobleman devoted to Charles I, a hairdresser that saved a bridge, the origins of the Oxford and Cambridge boat race and see Britain’s smallest pub.

Home to many leaders of the Arts and Crafts movement, we will see where William Morris lived, and discover how an argument between two printers led to the precious type face being thrown into the Thames.  We will pass the stunning last home of King Charles’s most famous mistress, Barbara Villiers, later to feature as the boy’s school in William Thackeray’s Vanity Fair.

Passing the first private house brewery, later to become Fullers, we will see the listed home of the famous Redgrave acting dynasty and end our walk at St. Nicholas Church and where William Hogarth is buried and learn about his connection with Chiswick.

A linear walk with its starting Point at the Hammersmith Apollo and finishing at Hogarth House, a short walk past several restaurants and café’s to Chiswick High Road and Turnham Green Tube Station.

(please check your travel arrangements and aim to arrive in time to start the walk promptly at 11am)
