Bermondsey has a history stretching back over a thousand years.  It was a place of fun and entertainment in the 1500s with its own Spa. It was the centre of the leather making trade in the 1600s and in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries it was famous for brewing, biscuit making, food canning. Its wharfs and warehouses received grain, cotton, meat and much more from far flung places. It was known as the London's Larder.

Exploring Bermondsey Riverside, starting at London Bridge, we will visit Hays Galleria, see the stunning modern developments which include City Hall and More London, continuing on to Potters Fields we will discover the remains of the parish church of St John Horselydown and learn about a doctor that changed the lives of the local people.  We will hear the fascinating history of the former Courage brewery and majestic 19th century warehouse complexes in and around Shad Thames which have been transported into chic apartments and arts venues.

Fortunately for us some of old Bermondsey can still be seen and will finish our walk at Bermondsey High Street full of restaurants and bars close to London Bridge station.
