Starting at Liverpool Street, we will explore Spitalfields which is a small neighbourhood in East London with a rich history including waves of immigration which stretch back to the sixteenth century.  We will hear about hidden Masonic Temples, discover how “Dirty Dicks” got its name and learn about the history of the Huguenots and see where they worked and lived.  Walk through where Henry VIII’s artillery practiced and enter a myriad of streets that followed the original street plan devised after the Great Fire of London in 1666.

On our way, we will see the Dutch Synagogue, a Jewish Soup Kitchen, see some great street art and wander down Brick Lane, renamed Banglatown.  We will see a mosque that was once a Huguenot Church and synagogue, visit Fournier Street one of the most important and best preserved collections of early Georgian domestic town-houses in Britain and hear about its past and present residents.  We will see one of Nicholas Hawsksmoor’s finest churches, stroll through Spitalfields Market one of the most vibrant and bustling markets in London today, see some of Spitalfields famous Street Art and we will end our walk back at Liverpool Street Station and there may even be a brief mention of Jack the Ripper!
