Saturday 14th June

A treat for all age ranges.

A walk through the City of London
and a chance to explore some of London's history
with an expert guide!

Cost - Club Members £4, Non-Club Members £8

On our walk we will visit Smithfield Market and will learn about its long and turbulent history and how its grassy meadows were used for public gatherings, sporting occasions such as jousting tournaments, fairs and even executions.

We will hear stories of body snatchers and learn about the Great Fire of London and explore the area around the Old Bailey, the former site of Newgate Prison.

Continuing on we visit London's charming memorial to the City's unsung heroes, historic Guildhall the City powerhouse since the twelfth century, wander through some of London’s oldest alleys and secret court yards, and visit the famous Leadenhall Market dating back to the 14th century.

We will see some of London’s iconic modern architecture and finally finish our walk at Devonshire Square with its immaculately restored 12 historic warehouses.

The walk will start from Farringdon Station, near the Farringdon Road exits, at 10:30am and will last for about two to two and half hours (depending on walking speeds), with an expected comfort break of around 20-30 minutes at about the half way point, ending in the Devonshire Square area, near Liverpool Street station. We hope to find plenty of restaurants around Devonshire Square as, by then, we will all probably need a rest and a bite to eat. Once we reach Devonshire Square you can decide to stop and have some lunch, simply do your own thing or make your way home.
